Stephen Barnard has written over twenty novels and novellas, published primarily as ebooks . Now most of them are available in print. Find out more below! Signed paperbacks can be purchased in his shop.

I write all kinds of different stories. When an idea surfaces with potential, one of the first decisions I make is whether or not it has the legs to be a novel.

All of the stories here demanded to be recognised in the longer form of the genre. As the ideas germinated in my mind, their scope got bigger and bigger. And there were more questions of: what if?

‘CORNER HOUSE’ starts from a simple enough premise. Two students interviewing a family who might just be involved in a cult. But then, what if one of the students gets drawn in to solving a family mystery? What if he thinks one of the children is in danger?

‘THE DELETED’ concerns a single mum trying to ween her son off a video game which he’s got too heavily involved with. But what if this game is something more sinister, in fact a vessel for the supernatural?

What if isolating during the Covid pandemic meant that your whole street becomes susceptible to a unique kind of haunting, just like in ‘SOMETHING CLOSE’?

In ‘21 DARES’ four schoolboys stumble across a game of dares hidden in an old closet. But what if the pressure of playing the game leads to resentment and hatred as the dares become more challenging, and bloody?

The scenario for ‘NO ONE IS LEAVING’ involves six couples gathering together in a remote lodge to celebrate a fortieth birthday. One of these couples is brand new, as the spinster in the party has finally brought a plus one. But what if he isn’t what he seems? What if he brings with him a terrifying agenda?

What if clothes were stolen from your house, only to be discovered at the end of your property, arranged in a sinister fashion? What if the boy who you’ve just let into your house isn’t the friend of your son that you thought he was? It would mean that ‘THEY’ are coming…

A teenager is killed and another goes missing. The community is at a loss, and is struggling to cope. But what if your small town buried a terrible secret long ago, only for it to now resurface in ‘GRIEVERS’ WOOD’?

And what if you crashed your car in the dead of night, crossing the Yorkshire moors, only to find yourself in a lake that wasn’t on the map and on the outskirts of a town that shouldn’t exist? And what happens if it’s someone you know next in line to be tied to ‘RINGROCK’?

A lot of questions that I wanted to find the answers to, and so ideas became novels and novellas. If you want to find the answers as well, each of these titles is available in the website shop.

Thanks, Stephen
